Review Dragon Ball Z Budokai: Tenkaichi 8.0/10 Sound 6.5/10 ███████████████████ Good sound effects and the talking is ok, but I gave it a 6.5 because they don't have the original songs from the show (most likely they didn't want to pay extra for that.). Graphics 7.9/10 ███████████████████ The graphics are not fantastic but OK -- about as good as Budokai 3. GamePlay 8.6/10 ███████████████████ Good GamePlay. Note that the Gameplay is far different then Budokai 3. Instead of pressing a bunch of buttons in a row (like ■ ■ →■ ▲ ● to use your Special, or best attack). You just press R2+▲ (at the same time) or R2+▲+↑. The Specials are much different too. There are two types of Specials: the Beam Specials and the Rush Specials. Beam Specials involve just firing a Beam or ball of energy. There are three ways to counter Beam Specials: 1. The easiest way is to just dodge it. 2. Fire your own beam and win the "Beam struggle." 3. Hide behind solid ground. (Note: most things are destructible; the ground you hide behind must be indestructible.) Rush Specials involve flying at full speed toward your opponent. If you make contact you will inflict a good amount of damage. A Rush Special is particularly useful if your opponent is at a vulnerable angle, like directly above you. There are six ways to counter. 1. The easiest way is to fire a beam special 2. Use your own Rush special and win the struggle 3. It will stop eventually if you keep running away 4. Teleport away Note: this is very difficult to do as it requires perfect timing 5. Hide behind indestructible ground. (Note: it must be at the right angle). 6. Oozaru (the giant ape) and Oozaru Vegeta are completely invulnerable to rushes In some situations rushes may be impossible to dodge. But the Specials are just one example of differences. There are no in-game transformations in this game (except for Goku's Kaioken). Instead you select the character first off. Also, you can fly around a lot. Replay 8.1/10 ███████████████████ Decent replay value. There are many characters to unlock and that ultimate battle can keep you going for awhile. Plus, the Z battle gate has a lot of sagas. Story 6.7/10 ███████████████████ Not that much of a story. It's just a lot of different sagas put together. At least it's something Originality 8.9/10 ███████████████████ Very much different from DBZ Budokai 3. Different than most fighting games for that matter. For one thing, they have a ton of characters (even if you don't include the copies). For another, it's not a 2-D playing field. Overall (not an average) 8.0/10 ███████████████████ Overall, a good game. You may want to rent it to check it out, and see if you like it. |
